Anthony Doerr
In 2015, Anthony Doerr received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, one of several major awards that have marked his career as a novelist, writer, and journalist working in the English language.
Born on October 27, 1973, in Cleveland, Doerr attended University School before going on to study at Bowdoin College and Bowling Green State University. His notable works include All the Light We Cannot See and Cloud Cuckoo Land. Over the course of his career he has accumulated a substantial body of recognition, receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Rome Prize, an O. Henry Award, a Pushcart Prize, the National Magazine Award, the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award, the Young Lions Fiction Award, and the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.
Recognition for his shorter fiction has also been consistent. Doerr received the Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award and an Alex Award, the latter given by the American Library Association for books written for adults that have particular appeal to young adults. The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, awarded for All the Light We Cannot See, remains among the most prominent honors in his record.
