Ben Nelson
Earl Benjamin Nelson was born on May 17, 1941, in McCook, Nebraska. He is an American politician, lawyer, and businessman whose career has been shaped by the state in which he began his life.
Nelson completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and went on to earn his legal degree at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Law. That training in Lincoln prepared him for work across several fields: he practiced law, built a career as an executive, and engaged in business. His civic record includes the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, a recognition given to Eagle Scouts who have demonstrated notable achievement in adult life.
His political career reached its highest point at the state level when he served as the 37th governor of Nebraska, an office he held from 1991 to 1999. Those eight years in the governorship represent the most prominent chapter of his public service. The Library of Congress Name Authority File records him under the authorized label "Nelson, E. Benjamin (Earl Benjamin), 1941-," a designation that reflects his standing as a documented public figure in American life.
