The Tate–LaBianca murders of 1969, a series of killings carried out around Los Angeles by followers of Charles Manson, resulted in the deaths of nine people. Manson ordered those attacks, and he was the founder of the group responsible for carrying them out, known as the Manson Family.

Manson was born on November 12, 1934, in Cincinnati, a citizen of the United States. His education took him through a range of institutions: he attended the Gibault School for Boys and the National Training School for Boys, and he later passed through Arroyo High School and Pasadena City College. Alongside his criminal activities, he worked as a musician.

As a cult leader, Manson built around himself the devoted group of followers who constituted the Manson Family. It was through this organization that his followers carried out the murders around Los Angeles in the summer of 1969. His roles as a musician, a cult leader, a criminal, and a serial killer defined the public record of his life.

Manson died on November 19, 2017, in Bakersfield, at the age of eighty-three. His name is formally catalogued in the Library of Congress Name Authority File under the authorized label "Manson, Charles, 1934–2017," a reference that fixes the dates of a life marked by the founding of the Manson Family and the killings its members carried out in 1969.

Quotes by Charles Manson

Why couldn’t we put on a defense? I had seventeen witnesses standing outside the door. They just dropped the defense and went on to the penalty phase. Like everything was cut and dry before it went off to martini land.
