Charles Mason was a British astronomer and geodesist, born on 25 April 1728 in Oakridge.
Between 1763 and 1767, Mason worked alongside Jeremiah Dixon on the survey that became known as the Mason–Dixon Line. This undertaking, carried out during those years of collaborative fieldwork, is the achievement for which Mason is most noted. He conducted the work as a citizen of the Kingdom of Great Britain.
Mason died in Philadelphia on 25 October 1786. His occupations as astronomer and geodesist shaped the work he brought to the Mason–Dixon survey, and his name, attached to that line alongside Dixon's, has remained associated with it ever since.
