Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker, writer, and autobiographer born in Amsterdam on 15 April 1892 and a citizen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Working alongside her father, Casper ten Boom, and her sister Betsie ten Boom, Corrie ten Boom participated in a family effort to hide Jewish people from Nazi persecution in their home. This undertaking led to the arrest of the family, and Corrie ten Boom was sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp. She worked in both Dutch and English as a writer and public speaker, and she received the Righteous Among the Nations award in recognition of her actions in protecting Jewish people. She was also honoured with the Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Her most prominent book, The Hiding Place, recounts the story of her family's efforts and their concentration camp imprisonment, presenting those events in autobiographical form. Ten Boom worked as a Christian writer and public speaker, and her output across those roles reflected her identity as both an autobiographer and a public figure engaged with the experiences documented in her writing.

Ten Boom died on 15 April 1983 in Placentia, on what was also her ninety-first birthday. The Hiding Place, with its direct account of her family's conduct during their imprisonment, stands as the concrete record through which her autobiography of those wartime years is known.
