Glynis Johns
Glynis Johns was born on 5 October 1923 in Pretoria, and she became a citizen of the United Kingdom. She received her education at Clifton High School and South Hampstead High School before embarking on a career that extended across multiple performance disciplines.
Johns worked as a film actor, television actor, and stage actor, while also pursuing work as a singer, dancer, ballerina, and musician. Her stage performances earned her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical. Her screen work brought her the National Board of Review Award for Best Actress, and she received Laurel Awards across the course of her career. Her work with the Disney studio was recognized through the Disney Legends honor.
Johns performed in English throughout a career that encompassed stage, screen, and musical work over several decades. She died on 4 January 2024 in Los Angeles.
