H. Beam Piper

H. Beam Piper was one of those writers, born on March 23, 1904, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, a citizen of the United States working in a genre that took speculative ideas seriously as storytelling material.
Piper wrote science fiction and speculative fiction, contributing to a field that was, during his lifetime, still working out its own conventions and ambitions.
