He probably threw more pitches than we would have liked. We would have put somebody else in, but he had a no hitter going, so we let him have it.

He struggled a little. But that ended quickly.

(Charlie) is a little more poised and confident this year. Not that he's cocky, but he knows that if he throws his fastball for strikes, he'll be successful.

But if we want to be the best we have to beat the best.

His breaking ball worked really well. Seven of his 12 strikeouts, the batter went down looking, didn't swing. A lot of those were on his breaking ball.

Independence is a good hitting team. This is a big win for us.

The kids knew we played bad the day before and they stepped up.

(Shawn had a few jitters early - walked the first two he faced - but he settled down. He's our no. three starter and he's swinging the bat well too.

Shawn really did a good job. He's been battling a sore arm, and he'd thrown around 90 pitches and we could see he lost some zip on his fastball.

It was a great experience to play a close ball game like that. We saw two pitchers who threw very well.
