Jessica Tandy
Jessica Tandy received the Academy Award for Best Actress, the most prominent of the many honours that defined her career as a stage, film, and television actor.
Tandy was born on 7 June 1909 in London and was educated at Dame Alice Owen's School. She worked across all three performance mediums throughout her professional life, holding citizenship in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Her stage work brought her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play. Her screen performances earned her a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie. Together with the Academy Award, these recognitions placed her among a small number of performers to have received major competitive honours across stage, film, and television.
Beyond competitive awards, Tandy received the Kennedy Center Honors, the National Medal of Arts, the Crystal Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She died on 11 September 1994 in Easton. The star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame remains a lasting, publicly visible marker of the recognition she received during her career.
Quotes by Jessica Tandy
