Jim Steinman
Bat Out of Hell is a work written by Jim Steinman, a composer, lyricist, and record producer who worked across adult contemporary, rock, dance, pop, musical theater, and film score genres throughout his career.
Steinman was born on November 1, 1947, in New York City and received his education at George W. Hewlett High School before attending Amherst College. Over the course of his professional life he worked as a pianist, singer, and songwriter, producing material in the English language across a notably wide range of styles. His roles extended beyond composition into record production, giving him direct involvement in the recorded form of the material he created.
In addition to Bat Out of Hell, Steinman wrote and produced Bonnie Tyler's album Faster Than the Speed of Night, and he wrote albums for both Bonnie Tyler and Meat Loaf more broadly. He also wrote "Making Love Out of Nothing at All," listed among his notable works, and wrote and produced Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell. Steinman died on April 19, 2021, in Danbury.
