Early Life and Background

---------------------------

John William Strutt was born into a family of scientists. His father, John James Strutt, was a mathematician and astronomer who later became the 3rd Baron Rayleigh. Strutt's early life was marked by a strong interest in science and mathematics, which he developed through his studies at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge.

During his time at Cambridge, Strutt was exposed to various scientific disciplines, including physics, chemistry, and mathematics. His research focused on the properties of gases, particularly oxygen and nitrogen. He made significant contributions to the field by identifying argon as a separate element from nitrogen and demonstrating that the Earth's atmosphere contains heavier-than-air gases.

Major Accomplishments

-------------------------

Strutt's most notable accomplishments include:

Discovery of Argon: Strutt identified argon as a distinct element in 1894. His research revealed that argon, which was previously thought to be a part of nitrogen, had unique properties and was present in the atmosphere.
Rayleigh Scattering Theory: Strutt's work on light scattering led him to develop the Rayleigh scattering theory. This concept explains how shorter wavelengths of light (blue and violet) are scattered more than longer wavelengths (red and orange), contributing to the Earth's blue sky appearance.

Notable Works or Actions

---------------------------

Strutt was an active researcher and published numerous papers on various scientific topics, including:

Investigations in Gases: Strutt conducted extensive research on gases, which led to his discovery of argon.
* Mathematical Analysis of Sound Waves: He also made significant contributions to the field of acoustics by analyzing sound waves using mathematical techniques.

Impact and Legacy

-----------------------

John Leighton's groundbreaking work had a profound impact on various scientific disciplines. His discovery of argon expanded our understanding of the periodic table, while his Rayleigh scattering theory remains fundamental in explaining atmospheric phenomena. Strutt's contributions to physics have inspired generations of scientists and researchers, shaping the course of modern science.

Why They Are Widely Quoted or Remembered

-----------------------------------------

Strutt is widely quoted for his insightful statements on scientific inquiry and the pursuit of knowledge:

> "I am convinced that one should study every subject, not as a collection of facts to be memorized, but as an organic whole, so that one can see the underlying principles."

John Leighton's dedication to scientific research and his pioneering work have made him a legendary figure in the world of science. His legacy continues to inspire new generations of scientists, researchers, and thinkers.

Its more than an exhibition; it's theater, it's confrontation.

Together, we have a lot of clout. You ask, beg, and bully colleagues into lending pieces. We have also built up some debts for the future. It's quid pro quo.

We focused on the two of them, and we challenged the other players to beat us. And, their role players had trouble doing that.

We wanted to run (tonight), that is our style, but clearly that is their game as well. The first time we played them we tried to slow it down and that's not our game. I told our girls that I'd rather risk being great with the risk of losing than playing it safe. I'm very proud of the effort. They got a lot of second shots and they beat us on the boards on both ends.

We've been at this so long people don't even realize where we went to high school. All you're going to do (with this column) is put ideas in people's heads who've never thought about it.

Managing physical and attendance expansions is part of my CV, ... but we shouldn't put too much of an emphasis on trying to double them. What's most important is the quality of what you have to offer and how you get the audience engaged in the collections. That's more important to me than a monitor at the door that salivates every time you have another 100,000 visitors.

Our plans for this property are to take this plant and do some extensive demolition, taking down some of the higher structures. We'll be creating space for marina business, selling boats and boat storage behind it, retail in the center section, and the rest will be for offices.

Obviously I don't know anything about who else was a candidate, ... But, looking at it from my perspective, I'm sure there are elements of what I have to offer which might seem safe. As for the shock of the new - I'm involved in a contemporary art museum in the Netherlands which has an international reputation as one of the best of the country. I've done exhibitions at the Van Gogh involving contemporary art and we've done work with modern painters, sculptors and photographers.
