John Timoney
John Timoney was an American chief of police, born in Dublin on July 2, 1948, who built his career in law enforcement in the United States.
Timoney attended Cardinal Hayes High School before going on to pursue higher education at several institutions, including Hunter College, Fordham University, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. That academic path, spread across multiple schools, reflected a sustained engagement with the formal study of his chosen field over a number of years.
He worked as a police officer and rose to the rank of chief of police, a position that placed him at the top of law enforcement leadership. His career took him across different cities, and he held U.S. citizenship throughout his working life, having made the country his home after leaving Ireland.
Timoney died in Miami in August 2016, with records placing his death on either August 16 or August 17 of that year. His life and work were defined by his occupation in policing and his role as a chief of police, the positions that formed the core of his public identity.
