Labyrinth, published in 2005, is a novel by Kate Mosse that has since been translated into more than 37 languages, making it one of the more widely disseminated works of British fiction from that decade.

Mosse was born Katharine Louise Mosse on 20 October 1961 in Chichester. A citizen of the United Kingdom, she was educated at New College and went on to work as an author, writer, and television presenter. Her writing spans historical prose literature and the Gothic novel, and she has also produced non-fiction and short stories. The breadth of these pursuits reflects a career built across multiple forms of written and broadcast communication, and Labyrinth emerged from this background as her most prominent work of long-form fiction.

Beyond her own writing, Mosse co-founded in 1996 an annual award for the best UK-published English-language novel by a woman, a prize that is now known as the Women's Prize for Fiction. The establishment of that award represented a formal institutional contribution to the literary landscape, distinct from her work as a practising writer. In recognition of her contributions to literature and public life, she has received the distinction of Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

Since 2024, the Women's Prize for Fiction has been joined by a sister award, the Women's Prize for Nonfiction, extending the scope of the prize-giving structure that Mosse helped to create nearly three decades earlier. This expansion into nonfiction marks a concrete development in the institutional reach of the organisation she co-founded.

Then he says her name. Her real name. The soft music of it hangs suspended in the air between them. Threat or entreaty, she doesn’t know, but she feels her resolve weaken.
