Malik Bendjelloul was born on September 14, 1977, in Ystad church parish, Sweden, and grew up to work within that landscape as a filmmaker and journalist.

A Swedish citizen educated at Kalmar University, Bendjelloul worked across several roles in the screen industries — as a film director, screenwriter, actor, and journalist.
