Matthew Perry was born on August 19, 1969, in Williamstown, and held dual citizenship in both Canada and the United States. He attended Ashbury College and Lisgar Collegiate Institute before later studying at The Buckley School, moving between educational institutions as he developed the comedic sensibility that would come to define his professional work.

Perry built a career that extended across several disciplines in the entertainment industry, working as an actor, comedian, screenwriter, writer, producer, director, and memoirist. His work encompassed film and television, and he also performed as a voice actor. The achievement most closely associated with his name was his involvement in Friends, the American television comedy series, for which he received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series alongside the show's cast. He also received a TV Guide Award and Huading Awards during the course of his career. Beyond performing, Perry contributed to productions as a writer and producer, extending his participation behind the camera as well as in front of it.

Perry died on October 28, 2023, in Los Angeles.
