The current generation of youth knows that Mandela was our president and that he was in jail, but that's it. They don't know their own history. We celebrated democracy and the miracle, but the building stones of a progressive and enlightened society needs work.

People don't read text books and 400-page biographies anymore.

The thread of the story is that he was a troublemaker. When he made up his mind that something was not right, he fought it hard.

Everything before then was written off as savagery or barbarism. Any story that involved heroism was about white people.

We want our youth to be able to say: I come from a people who were trading just as the British did.
