Rick Moody
Rick Moody is an American novelist and science fiction writer, born in New York City on October 18, 1961.
He attended St. Paul's School before going on to study at Brown University. He later pursued graduate work at Columbia University and the Columbia University School of the Arts, rounding out a formal education that moved from secondary school through undergraduate study and into a dedicated arts program.
Moody writes in English and has received recognition for his work through a pair of notable awards. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, and he also received the Fernanda Pivano Award for American Literature. The two honors together reflect a career that has drawn attention from literary institutions in more than one context.
His work spans the novel and reaches into science fiction, placing him across more than one genre. Those two registers — the novel and science fiction writing — represent the recurring territory of his published output.
