Stanisław Jerzy Lec was a Polish poet, writer, and aphorist, born on 6 March 1909 in Lviv.

Lec studied at Lviv University, where he attended the Law Faculty. He worked in the Polish language throughout his career, and his notable work Unkempt Thoughts stands as a published collection of aphorisms, gathering the short, pointed reflections that characterize his output in that form.

His wartime conduct was recognized through a series of military and civil decorations awarded by the Polish state. He received the Cross of Valour and the Partisan Cross, as well as the Medal of Victory and Freedom 1945 and the Medal for Warsaw 1939–1945. On the civil side, he received two grades of the Order of Polonia Restituta, first as a Knight and subsequently as an Officer, representing successive recognition by the Polish state.

Lec spent the final years of his life in Warsaw, where he died on 7 May 1966. His consistent work across poetry and the aphorism, both composed in the Polish language, marks the defining thread of his career as a writer and citizen of Poland.
