Tony Ross is a British illustrator, cartoonist, and children's picture book writer born in London in 1938.

Ross was educated at Helsby High School and went on to study at Liverpool John Moores University. Working in English, he built a career producing both his own picture books and illustrations for texts by other authors. His Little Princess series, which he wrote and illustrated himself, became one of his most prominent bodies of work in Britain, and the series was later adapted into a television programme for Milkshake!

Over the course of his career Ross took on illustration work across a wide range of children's series. He illustrated the Horrid Henry books written by Francesca Simon, and that series also made the transition to television, airing on CITV in an adaptation based on his artwork. He illustrated the Dr. Xargle series by Jeanne Willis, the Amber Brown series by Paula Danziger, and the Harry the Poisonous Centipede series by Lynne Reid Banks. He also illustrates the works of David Walliams, a collaboration that has produced a substantial number of titles.

Ross received the Silver Brush, an award recognising his work as an illustrator. His output spans original picture books, illustrated fiction series for other authors, and graphic work across multiple formats, with children's picture books remaining the consistent thread running through his career.
