Tony Smith
Tony Smith was an American sculptor, architect, and painter whose work placed him within the minimalist art movement of the twentieth century.
Born on September 23, 1912, in South Orange, Smith pursued his education at Fordham University, Georgetown University, and the Art Students League of New York. That range of training across academic and fine arts settings gave him a footing in both the structural thinking of architecture and the visual concerns of studio practice. He went on to work across sculpture, painting, and design, engaging with abstract art throughout his career.
