I am in favour of capital punishment if the execution of the sentence is immediate. The purpose of the death penalty is to send out a message to society.

I am afraid that it would be a mockery of justice if the death penalty is not imposed. And therefore I pleaded that there are maximum aggravating circumstances, which supersede the mitigating circumstances. And there is not a single mitigating circumstance which speaks in favor of the accused, and therefore all the accused deserve (the) death penalty.

Abu Salem will be presented before the court and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will seek further police custody demand for a case pertaining to the Mumbai blasts in 1993.

Abu Salem will face charges of committing a terrorist act against the country, criminal conspiracy and supply of arms and ammunition.

We will appeal to a higher court for a tougher conviction, at least for a life sentence. Not only because he was a cop, but also because of the brazen way he behaved after the rape.

Now that he is in India and in custody, police can trace his network of associates all over the country.
