Vivienne Westwood was a British fashion designer and businessperson, born on 8 April 1941 in Hollingworth, whose work became closely associated with the punk subculture and the New Romantic movement.

She was educated at Glossopdale School before going on to study at Middlesex University and the University of Westminster. Her career extended well beyond the drafting table: she worked as a jewelry designer, taught at university level, and pursued photography alongside her commercial and creative endeavors. Throughout her life she was also active as an activist, bringing a public dimension to her identity that ran in parallel with her professional work.

Her contributions to fashion and design were recognized through several significant awards. She received the Royal Designer for Industry award, one of the most rigorous distinctions conferred by the Royal Society of Arts, as well as the Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. She also received The Fashion Awards, further marking the breadth of recognition her career attracted. Westwood died on 29 December 2022 in Clapham, London.
