William Shatner
William Shatner is a Canadian-American actor, singer, author, and film director born on March 22, 1931, in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood of Montreal, Quebec.
Shatner attended Baron Byng High School and West Hill High School before going on to study at McGill University. His career as a performer has spanned multiple disciplines, with his work in the Star Trek series standing as a sustained point of reference throughout his professional life. He also appeared in T. J. Hooker and The Practice, extending his presence across decades of American television. Beyond acting, he has worked as a singer, a published author, and a film director, moving between those roles across a long career conducted primarily in the English language.
Among the recognitions he has received are the Officer of the Order of Canada, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal — a range of honours that reflects both his contributions to entertainment and his engagement with public life beyond it. His work as an actor on television, his output as an author, and his continued activity as a public figure connect across the recurring terrain of science fiction and American genre television, domains to which the Star Trek series, in particular, has given him an enduring association.
