Alcohol provides the only true escape, that's why it still remains in such high demand.

There’s two ways to go in this life. You can try to rise above it, overpower it, with meditation, exercise, and purity. Or you can take the easier route, something to help you along the way, such as alcohol and drugs. Either way, you overpower and escape the problem, humanity.

I don’t like to stop drinking, after I start. I would rather not begin at all, than to stop. I don’t like the feeling of sobering up, when I know I could still be drinking. Stopping somehow feels disrespectful to the booze, and the journey.

When you are young you drink to be sociable, and when you are old you drink to be unsociable.

When you haven’t had a drink for a week or so, you get the urge, feel the excitement in your gut, and your mind goes a little scrambled, you feel happy when you go to buy the booze, you get home, you lock your door behind you and say, yes, this night is mine, mine alone, my adventure, my escape, my unchartered journey, and no one can take it away from me.

Alcohol let's us go on a journey. It's like paying for a ride. It maybe a ride to nowhere, but at least we get to go on that ride that we paid for. And no journey is the same. We wake up next day, usually with memory loss, usually with regret at something we did or said. But we know, we got our money's worth.
