Allan Houston
Allan Houston is an American professional basketball player, born on April 20, 1971, in Louisville, who competed as a shooting guard in the National Basketball Association.
Houston attended Ballard High School before going on to study at the University of Tennessee. He entered the NBA in 1993 and played in the league until 2005, a career spanning twelve years. Among his longest and most prominent stints was a nine-season tenure with the New York Knicks, during which he was part of the Knicks team that reached the 1999 NBA Finals. His consistent play at the shooting guard position earned him selection to the NBA All-Star Team on two occasions during his professional career.
Beyond his club career, Houston represented the United States on the international stage, winning a gold medal as a member of the U.S. men's basketball team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. His career thus encompassed achievement at both the professional league level and in international competition. The thread running through his playing record is a sustained focus on the shooting guard position, a role he occupied across his entire NBA career from his 1993 debut through his final season in 2005.
Quotes by Allan Houston

He's an impact player, ... He's one of those guys that when you play against him, you say, 'Man, if we had him, it'd be nice.'

I pictured this day for a long time but I didn't think it was going to happen so soon. ... I did everything that I possibly could to get back and finish my career the way I would have like to. But the injury wouldn't allow me to do that. This is the right time for me to move on.

I just don't have it in my mind that I'm not going to be able to come back, honestly.

I hope that all of our fans realize how much of an honor and privilege it was to represent them and New York at Madison Square Garden for all of these years,

I'm not going to retire, ... I believe in my heart that I'm going to be back. It would be nice to play two more years here and get close to winning a championship.

The fans of New York were unbelievable, ... I want to thank the fans for not only supporting me, but challenging me.

At the same time I don't want to be disruptive either, ... I want to make sure I'm doing whatever I can and my body is making the right progress.

It's tough, it really is. But once they get past this hurdle I think they'll be fine.
