A particular kind of filmmaking demands that its practitioners wear many hats at once — writing, designing, animating, and directing can all fall to the same person across a single production. Chris Butler, born in Liverpool around 1973 or 1974 and a citizen of the United Kingdom, works across exactly that range of roles, operating as a writer, director, animator, storyboard artist, designer, film producer, and visual artist.

Butler attended Deyes High School and Hugh Baird College before going on to study at the University for the Creative Arts. That background in visual and creative education feeds into a career that spans both the storytelling and the craft sides of filmmaking. He's associated with several films across his working life: Coraline, ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Missing Link. The breadth of his credited roles across those productions reflects how fully he moves between different functions — from the page to the storyboard to the director's chair.

ParaNorman represents one of his most prominent credits as a writer and director, while Missing Link connects him to the producing side of the work as well. His films have drawn attention across the industry, and his association with projects like Kubo and the Two Strings shows the range of productions he's contributed to in various capacities. The fact that he holds so many distinct professional roles — screenwriter, animator, designer, visual artist — marks him as someone whose work touches a production at multiple stages rather than a single point in the process.

Existence is the only reality for the self. As water cannot be separated from wetness, so you, the self, cannot be separated from existence. Existence is an integral aspect of your essence.

The adoption rate in the region is slow, but we forecast that it will pick up gradually. Just like managed care originated on the West Coast and worked its way east, we think there will be a similar pattern with that here.

The search for wisdom is a great challenge; to act on wisdom is an even greater challenge. To accept that you are spiritual in essence, that you are an eternal spark of life force, is to open the door on a whole new life. There are many questions now, and there will be many more questions ahead.
