All of those were shots. He shortened his swing a little bit. He has been a little long. He's got enough strength where a short swing like that can be productive for him.

I'm proud of our guys. We faced good arms both nights and got our hits.

Their experience in winning came into play. They expect to win. They are used to winning. But I think the longer our guys play together, it will be an expectation for them, too.

They've got very good offensive numbers. We're similar clubs in that our strengths are our offenses. It may be one of those weekend series with three (high-scoring) Sunday-type games.

They are just a tremendous ball club. I was glad we were able to get two freshman pitchers in the game today to face a team like Rice. Hopefully it will make them better down the road.

They did a good job of getting the ball in the air on a day when the wind was blowing out. We had a couple of pitches that got away -- a couple we would sure like to have back -- and they just don't miss too many mistake pitches.

The ballpark played kind of small tonight. So guys may have been nibbling at the strike zone a bit.

That's a gamble play there. If we had to play it over, we would do it the same way.

It's going to be another challenge for our guys. Southern Miss is probably the hottest team in the league right now, probably hotter than Rice.

There's no doubt about it that it should, with the quality pitching we faced and with the environment we played in.
