Leon Max
Leon M. Lederman was an American particle physicist and university teacher born in New York City on July 15, 1922.
Lederman attended James Monroe High School before going on to study at the City College of New York and later Columbia University. He worked as a physicist and also taught at the university level. He died on October 3, 2018.
Among the honors Lederman received were the Wolf Prize in Physics, the Enrico Fermi Award, and the Nobel Prize in Physics. He served as director emeritus of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois. In 1986, he founded the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. He later held the title of resident scholar emeritus at that same institution, a role he kept from 2012 until his death in 2018.
