Born on October 29, 1971, in Chaoyang District, Ma Huateng is a Chinese entrepreneur and computer scientist. He attended Shenzhen Middle School before going on to study at Shenzhen University. He subsequently co-founded Tencent, a Shenzhen-based conglomerate operating across technology, gaming, entertainment, and financial services, and has served as both its chairman and chief executive officer. Beyond the private sector, Ma has held public roles as a deputy to the Shenzhen Municipal People's Congress and as a delegate in the 12th National People's Congress.
His work at Tencent has attracted recognition from several prominent publications and institutions. In 2015, Forbes credited him as one of the world's most powerful people, and in 2017 Fortune ranked him among the top businessmen of the year. He has received the Time 100 award, the Tatler Most Influential Hong Kong award, the Pioneer of Reform award, and the 100 Outstanding Private Entrepreneurs in the 40 Years of Reform and Opening-up award. As of November 2025, Forbes reported his net worth at approximately US$63 billion.
