Early in 2004, I predicted that energy's share of the S&P 500's market capitalization would rise from just below 6% at that time to 15% before the end of the decade. In January, its market-cap share was up to 12.1%, while its share of earnings had risen to 9.1% from 6.0% in early 2004.

We've been talking about trying to get these girls down below (13 minutes, 30 seconds). They're going in the right direction. We've running with a pretty inexperienced group, but if they keep going, they're going to be right there.

That's below the knees, high 90s, and guys are trying to touch it.

The leading indicators have been much more volatile since Hurricane Katrina. However, the trend has been generally flat over the past six months, at levels that are well below where they were 12 to 18 months ago.

If you look at labor demand, you should be getting a decent trend. It was only June data that fell below that trend.

This is a fairly big negative, correlated to other unfortunate news, like weak financial markets, which have their own impact. So far it still looks like the economy is growing, but below trend.
